This review article is a current survey of excipients used in approved injectable products.Conventional parenteral drug delivery systems, typically intravenous injection, occasionallycause a high plasma drug concentration, close to the minimum toxic concentration. Repetitiveadministration is sometimes required due to the short duration of action from traditionalsystem. To avoid the problems from conventional systems, parenteral controlled-release drug delivery systems administered either by subcutaneous injection, intramuscular injection, or injection to other specific sites such as intra-articulate injection along with biodegradable polymers to achieve consistent, predictable or desired drug release profiles.
